CALL FOR ARTS FESTIVAL PROPOSALS - October 3, 2008

An arts festival in April 2009 based around renewable and sustainable energy and the revival of redundant power and propulsion ideas within new and future environmentally conscious technologies. The themes for the event have been drawn from the parallels of Heron Corn Mill's 18th century waterwheel powered grinding mechanisms and the 21st century evolution of that technology into a newly installed electricity generating hydro turbine. Mirrors are sought for the relation of this modern and historic technological juxtapose on the poetic and ideological levels that are embedded within its engineered forms, reflecting the historical continuity of the site, which has for centuries been using the flow of water as a utility, be it for the turning of millstones or now the generation of kilowatts. Hence the festival themes are concerned with the ways in which those old and new technologies impact upon the built, human and natural environments. Proposals are sought from artists wishing to new develop work in any medium, reflecting the themes of the show. Entry fee.
