Each year Light Work invites between twelve and fifteen artists from all over the world to come to Syracuse to devote one month to creative projects. Over 350 artists have participated in the AIR program, and many of them have gone on to achieve international acclaim. The residency includes a $4,000 stipend, a furnished artist apartment, 24-hour access to our state-of-the-art facilities, and generous staff support. Work by each Artist-in-Residence is published in a special edition of Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual along with an essay commissioned by Light Work. The Diogene group of artists is promoting the international competition "Diogene_urbanbivouac", open to Italian and foreign artists. The artist selected will be hosted in an old carriage, the Bivouac, from the city's public transports agency, located in a green roundabout in Turin. Period of stay: 4 to 8 weeks between September 1st and October 20th 2011. While graphic design images will be considered, works using non-digital mediums are desired. Assets for Artists – a collaborative program aimed at helping artists and performers in all disciplines throughout Massachusetts who wish to strengthen their creative businesses or become home-owners - is inviting new applications for 2011. The program is led by MASS MoCA, in partnership with the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network and local partners, with lead funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Grants of up to $4,000 for first-time home buyers and $1,500 for those making business-related investments will be available for "low- to moderate-income" artists (all disciplines encouraged to apply).

JURIED SCULPTURE EXHIBITION - April 21, 2011
The Art in the Park exhibition was created to present public art to a broad community, promote works by artists from the region, enhance outdoor spaces and enrich lives. Since its premiere in 2008 this annual exhibition of 20-25 large-scale sculptures has been organized by a dedicated group of volunteers and community supporters in conjunction with public art curators. Art in the Park was one of six projects to receive the Gold Star Award in 2009 - a statewide award given by the Massachusetts Cultural Council to recognize exemplary cultural programs funded by a local cultural council. Artists accepted to exhibit will each receive a stipend of $700 to defray the cost of transportation and installation.

Light Work’s international Artist-in-Residence Program was created to provide artists with the opportunity to create work without distraction. Each year Light Work invites 12-15 artists to participate in its residency program, including one artist co-sponsored by Autograph ABP. Artists selected for the residency program are invited to live in Syracuse for one month. They receive a $4,000 stipend. Light Work supplies an apartment to stay in, private darkroom space, and 24-hour access to our facility. Our lab facility can accommodate just about any black-and-white process from alternative processes to mural printing.

Possibly the most exquisite combination of "form meets function" exists around us all. For civilizations the architecture that emerged has served a wealth of uses, from the most utilitarian purposes to the most intricate historical records. However, the vast impressiveness and monumental achievement of the architecture we experience, typically distracts us from the efforts that lead to such an enormous structure. "The Architectural Unconscious" is an exhibition that celebrates everything architecture produces, yet overshadows in appreciation. In other words, architecture yields sculptures, drawings, photographs, paintings, plans, detailed models, and many other forms of art that demand our attention. Artists are invited to submit artwork (in media including paintings, sculptures, photography, etc.) that celebrates Latinas/Hispanic women. NHLI will use the winning image to promote the 2011 Executive Leadership Training Conference and Mujer Awards Gala to be held November 3-4, 2011. Every year Manifest calls for little works of art from around the world. Each exhibit brings in hundreds of powerful yet diminutive masterpieces for our jury to consider. Inevitably we end up with a gallery full of diverse, compelling, and exquisite little gems. Manifest’s patrons eagerly await the Magnitude SEVEN event each year. So we are always excited to offer this annual call to artists to submit works no larger than seven inches in any dimension (any proportion). Standard presentation devices like mats and frames that are not considered part of the work of art are not limited by the 7" criteria.

Earthquake, tsunami and nuclear threat. Japan is heart broken, so many things are happening and we are overcome with grief and worry. We are thinking of things we can do to help from here in New York and have decided to organize a charity art show/event at In Rivers Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. It would mean the world to us if you could donate a piece of art or simply stop by. All works will be sold on a first come, first served basis for $20 each and all proceeds will go to charities supporting earthquake victims in Japan!
