The fast-paced "arts tune-up" format works like this: There will be several tables set up with an arts expert/consultant addressing a specific subject located at each table. Participants choose a topic they want to learn more about. After 25 minutes, participants rotate to another table with a topic of interest as the sessions repeat. The Soap Factory is a 120-year old ex-industrial warehouse on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Now accepting entries for traveling exhibition, featuring works in the four-by-six-inch postcard size. Art in any 2D medium reproducible by photographic process is acceptable, as is 3D work with a depth no greater than three-eighths of an inch. Open to artists 18 and up. These residency grants are designed to enable artists to produce a limited edition book work at WSW. Working intensively in our studios for six to eight weeks, artists print and bind their own books. WSW technical assistance includes training on new equipments, introduction to new materials, and assistance with production. The grant includes a stipend of $2,000 to $3,000 for six to eight weeks, materials up to $750, access to all studios, travel costs (within the Continental US), and housing. Projects are chosen by a jury of outside artists and curators.

A new Downtown Partnership program called Operation: Storefront aims to match individuals or groups seeking space with available first floor spaces in Downtown, thereby putting Downtown storefronts back into “operation”. Downtown Partnership is seeking proposals from individual artists and artist teams, established or aspiring retailers and restaurateurs, and creative entrepreneurs, nonprofits or companies to occupy, activate, and utilize empty first floor space for creative enterprises. Successful applicants will receive grants of up to $10,000 to support costs associated with the occupation of, and operation at, a selected vacant first floor space. Tenant applicants are welcome and encouraged to include a proposal for a specific space, or Downtown Partnership staff will work with applicants to determine an appropriate no or low-cost space after their bid has been chosen.
