"OPEN CALL" TO ARTISTS - September 20, 2009

Brina Thurston's 'Open Call' considers the ostensibly democratic process by which art institutions invite artists to submit works to be considered for exhibition, but in which many factors other than quality and merit operate. Transporting what happens behind closed doors to a public arena, this project consists of an open call to artists that are not included in the 2009 Frieze Art Fair and the presentation in a booth of all the proposals submitted for one day. Brina Thurston queries the existing logic of open calls by providing exposure opportunities for a range of artists outside of the gallery system and shifting the power of selection to the artist.

This exhibit intends to explore how the contemporary changing landscape is experienced and envisioned by contemporary artists of all mediums, including landscape architects. 3D and installation work is encouraged. BALLET SEEKS YOUNG CONTEMPORARY CHOREOGRAPHERS - September 1, 2009

In order to expand the activities of the Company’s international project, Les Ballets Persans is creating opportunities of participation and collaboration for young choreographers within the EYDP. During the past four seasons European Youth Dance Project has engaged both professional and semiprofessional dancers in this international peace and integration undertaking. Due to the requests coming to the company and in order to offer opportunities of involvement, Les Ballets Persans is inviting young contemporary choreographers to take part in this project by choreographing and instructing participant dancers in the EYDP during short periods of time as from the start of the spring season 2010. Young contemporary choreographers will have the opportunity of working with participant dancers half-time during one or two weeks, presenting to them fresh chorographical material, new experience and a focused, well-developed style. Choreographers who have been working professionally during at least past three years are welcome to contact the Company and send a presentation of themselves for consideration.

ONLINE NOVEL SEEKS ART - September 1, 2009

International Art wanted (photographs, graphics, paintings) to help illustrate the serial novel 'AMERICAN FEVER, A Tale of Romance & Pestilence'. American Fever is a blog novel that I am presenting online globally from early July into December 2009, post by post, day by day. This is the live, linked, usually illustrated tale of a New Yorker blogging through two waves of a flu pandemic that causes massive social and political problems at home and overseas. Scanning the weeks of posts, the gallery of art already selected, and the novel's foreword will provide hints of the range of images in this radical multimedia serial novel. (Two artworks have been deployed in the narrative so far.) No entry fee.
