CALL FOR STREET-LEVEL PUBLIC ART PROPOSALS - March 1, 2010

Artists at any stage in their careers are invited to consider submitting their work for consideration for a temporary public art project for New York streetscapes: The Street Gallery: Gatescapes Public Art. The newest venture of Mediacy Inc., the Soho-based advertising company, "gatescapes" are large-format, billboard-sized vinyl placed on roll-down security gates -- initially in New York, and in Los Angeles by mid-year. Woven into this advertising program, Mediacy is offering the sites to artists, in four-week timeframes between ad displays, for the installation of temporary public artworks. These storefront "windows" may be used singly, or in combination - triptychs, corner wrap-arounds, or even in a series along a whole block - in locations such as 14th Street at 7th Avenue, Saint Marks between 2nd and 3rd, or the corner of 8th Avenue and 51st Street, and over 150 more to choose from.

CALL FOR PUBLIC ART PROPOSALS - April 2, 2010

Public art used to refer to murals, monuments and memorials. Today it is almost anything and everything artists can think up, a broad spectrum of activities encompassing almost every aspect of our lives. This call is open to all artists interested in creating an original permanent or semi-permanent street artwork that makes a positive contribution to the urban environment and raises awareness of the crucial role of art in public sites. Although we encourage submissions of "site-specific" art: works designed for a particular place, taking into account the site's physical surroundings as well as other social factors, all ideas are welcome. Our only guideline is to look for artists that can help us serve our communities to memorialize, to beautify, to address problems, to manifest ideas. Request images of possible locations. Entry fee.
