RYAN WHITE HUMNITARIAN AWARD - November 20, 2009

LOOKING FOR ARTISTS - Open Door Clinic is looking for artists in any medium. The first Ryan White Humanitarian Award will be given at a dinner in Chicago, late 2010. We need people to submit their ideas of what the award should look like and what materials it will be made from. A committee, including Ryan's mother Jeanne White-Ginder will choose the winning submission. The winner will be announced during the World AIDS Day 2009 breakfast. The artist will receive a $250 stipend for his/her idea and 2 tickets to the first award dinner.

DUAL-CHANNEL VIDEO FESTIVAL - September 1, 2009

Dual Channel video work is a style that is often included in exhibition format but rarely seen in a festival type screening; therefore this festival will exclusively feature this format. WORLDWIDE PHOTOGRAPHY GALA AWARDS - September 27, 2009

Amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit black and white and color photographs in any of the categories: Portrait: People and Figure, Fine Art, Landscape and Cityscape, Abstract, Digital Enhanced, Documentary, including Reportage & Photojournalism. The following prizes will be awarded: $5,000 cash prize for the WPGA 2009 Photographer of the Year, $3,000 cash grant for the recipient of the Humanitarian Documentary Award, $400 cash prize for each Best in Category award; A book publication that will include all selected images; Exhibition of all the selected work in Madrid, Spain 2010. Open to any person or group of persons making work that incorporates Super8mm or 16mm film format as part of that presentation. In previous years 16 film was blended with dance performance, Super8 with live spoken word/audience involvement, & multi-projections with live jazz/musical devices. OCTOBER 2009 EXHIBITION - September 1, 2009

Projekt30 is taking submissions for our October 2009 publicly juried exhibition. We are an artist-run arts organization dedicated to promoting emerging artists. The exhibition will include thirty artists; invitations will be sent to over 30,000 galleries, collectors, and fellow artists. Visitors have the option of contacting any participating artist with feedback or opportunities. As of Nov. 2008 over 200,000 messages have been sent to participating artists. All artwork submitted will be presented online prior to the exhibition so visitors may help select which artists will be included in the exhibition. Unlike other juried exhibitions, all participants receive exposure. Opens: October 1, 2009. Public Jury: September 15-29, 2009. NATIONAL PRINT COMPETITION - November 2, 2009

Open to artists residing in the U.S. Prints must be original and done within the past two years. Previously exhibited works, crafts, digital, photographs, and sculpture are ineligible. All prints must be traditionally printed: no machine prints accepted. Combination techniques are encouraged but must include traditional press printing as a significant component. Monotypes and monoprints are also acceptable. One $750 Purchase Award, two $500 Purchase Awards, and other cash and merit awards will be presented. Sales will be encouraged. Held on the grounds of the Eastern Shore Art Center and surrounding downtown area of Fairhope, Alabama. This three-day fine art event attracts over 200,000 visitors from around the country. INTERNATIONAL ZANZIBAR MUSIC FESTIVAL - July 31, 2009

Sauti za Busara is an international music festival, held every February in Zanzibar, showcasing music from around the Swahili region, across the African continent and the diaspora beyond. Over past years, more than 240 groups have performed, including Jose Chameleone, Juma Nature & Wanaume Family TMK, Samba Mapangala, Saida Karoli, Natacha Atlas, Didier Awadi, Eric Wainaina, Bassekou Kouyate, Seckou Keita Quartet, Culture Musical Club and many more. For artists performing in the Festival, we usually pay a modest performance fee and cover local expenses in Zanzibar, including travel, accommodation, food and incidentals. PAINTING STUDIO WITH CHARLES PHILIP BROOKS - September 18, 2009

This two year course of study with noted North Carolina painter Charles Philip Brooks concentrates on preparing students for professional careers as artists. Emphasis is placed on traditional methods of oil painting, including making copies, and plein-air landscape painting. Students receive instruction in traditional 19th century techniques as well as practical advice for careers in fine art. The cost is $1,200 per 3 month session. Sessions include studio space, weekly lectures, and critiques. The studio is housed in the landmark Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences.

CALL FOR MINNESOTA ARAB ARTISTS - October 15, 2009

This is a call to all Arab artists in the state of Minnesota for its juried show "Sabeel: Artistic Journeys from Arab Lands to America." It will be in the spring of 2010 in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center lobby gallery and theater at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Artists above 18 and residing in Minnesota, who identify themselves as Arabs, or were born in an Arab land, are eligible. The artwork must be new and explore the intersection between being Arab and being American or living in America. All media are accepted including photography, design, craft, performance and visual arts. No entry fee.

SMITHSONIAN FIGURATIVE COMPETITIONS - September 20, 2009

A panel of judges consisting of professors from top universities in the Washington metropolitan area will join the Smithsonian in awarding $1,500 to winning entries of
four competitions. Artists accepted into the one day exhibition and participants of related September events may also attend group critiques, closing lecture, awards presentation and reception as well as watch a selection of the area's finest figurative artists as they work during a three day model marathon. NATIONAL PRINT COMPETITION - November 2, 2009

Open to artists residing in the U.S. Prints must be original and done within the past two years. Previously exhibited works, crafts, digital, photographs, and sculpture are ineligible. All prints must be traditionally printed: no machine prints accepted. Combination techniques are encouraged but must include traditional press printing as a significant component. Monotypes and monoprints are also acceptable. One $750 Purchase Award, two $500 Purchase Awards, and other cash and merit awards will be presented. Sales will be encouraged. MARIETTA GEORGIA ART WALK SEEKS ARTISTS - July 20, 2009

First Friday Art Walk is a free self-guided tour of the Marietta Square’s galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and businesses on the first Friday of every month, April – October (except for July), rain or shine. The public is encouraged to visit all the artists, galleries & shops by getting their Art Walk Map stamped by 15 participating venues. They then return it to the Art Walk Headquarters Tent in Artists’ Alley to redeem a gift bag. Art Walk hours are 6pm-9pm. New this year is “Artist’s Alley” a juried art area where artists can exhibit and sell their works. The Artist’s Alley will be in the courtyard outside the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau, in the historic train depot at 4 Depot Street. Entry fee.

Joint Shows: The Powerhouse Gallery Series features several mixed shows based on a theme. This year the themes will be recycled art and architecture up close. ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM - December 31, 2009

HERE Arts Center supports the vision of artists, ensuring them the opportunity to develop and perform original work as well as offer the support needed to realize their artistic visions. The HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP) offers artists these prospects, allowing them to take part in a peer-based program that works to nurture new work and artists over the course of 1 to 3 years.
