CALL FOR "WABI-SABI" THEMED ART - May 29, 2009

Any media or material, from major installations to miniscule "gems." Because the Wabi Sabi ideal is in such contrast to our usual (Western) approach to art, the emphasis of this exhibit will be not on the final perfected form of the work, but on how well pieces reflect the sense and feeling of this elusive concept. In particular, focus will be on the imaginative use of materials and uniqueness. See the Wabi-Sabi portion of the website for inspiration and more definitions. All works must be ready to display and labeled with artist's name, telephone, medium, size, and price, if for sale. Entry fee.

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS - June 20, 2009

The 2nd festival edition will pass under the PEKING DUCK OR VIDEO IN TIME OF CRISIS motto. We believe this title corresponds with the core aims of VIDEOHOLICA FESTIVAL and also it is definitely provoking, actual, and gives opportunity to stimulate original visual art proposals covering very wide sphere of problems and meanings. Nowadays, in time of global financial crisis, the motto in question focuses on two contrast models that control the world - luxury and poverty - in the broad sense of the meaning. The motto also corresponds with the concept of "high" art and the video art as one of the most popular contemporary media, which nowadays is becoming more and more accessible for the artists around the world. In the frames of the PEKING DUCK OR VIDEO IN TIME OF CRISIS motto, this year's festival edition gives certain directions for approach and development of the idea of international collaboration and partnership, concerning video art phenomenon with its complicated meaning and sense. CALL FOR FIGURATIVE ART - May 3, 2009

The term “figurative work” encompasses a broad range of genre and technique. Our tendency to identify with representations of the human form gives these works an ability to connect with us on many levels. For this exhibition, I want to assemble a collection of artwork that demonstrates the power the figure has to relate and communicate with the viewer. I look forward to selecting from a variety of works that utilized the figure to express everything from an evocative political statement to other, more personal, depictions of beauty in this form that we all share.
