CALL FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS - March 1, 2010
Seeking applications for solo/two-person/group exhibitions during the 2011-2012 seasons. It is preferred that the artist(s) be present at the gallery for installation/de-installation, and required for the reception. At this time, the gallery is not equipped for new media/technology/performance based work. Most other media welcome. Hood College will accept proposals for exhibitions from curators. Please provide images with a detailed proposal, as well as a bio/resume from the curator(s) and each of the artists. Please send a SASE for return of materials (optional). No entry fee.

What is a motion portrait? Is there such a thing? What distinguishes motion portraits from biographical films and documentaries? Portraiture and self-portraiture have fascinating histories in painting, drawing, sculpture and photography, but what has happened to the form of the portrait in the digital age? Are contemporary filmmakers, video artists, animators and programmers pushing the disciplines of the portrait and self-portrait into motion? Accepting all artworks which can be screened in video (including film, video, motion graphics, animation, programming, game interfaces, flip books, etc.) No entry fee.

PUBLIC ART PROPOSALS - February 25, 2010
Seeking an artist to design a commemoration that will tell the story and educate viewers of the history and importance of the End of the Massive Resistance. The committee is not looking for specific representation but hopes the work will communicate a depth of feeling, meaning and human understanding of this time and history. The final artwork should communicate the past and what was, be thought-provoking and challenging but also look to the future with inspiration and communicate our hopes as a community and a higher ideal. The selected artist will be work closely with the community to understand the history of this significant event, the changing race relations and what it means to Norfolk. Up to five finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the public art planning committee and paid $1,000 to make a presentation to the committee. This includes all travel, preparation and interview. One artist will be selected for the project. An additional $32,000 is available for the final complete design phase. The budget for the completed and installed artwork is $500,000 at this time, however significant private sector fundraising is anticipated.

Winners of this year's contest will be published in our special anniversary double-issue celebrating the 25th anniversary of our MFA program and the 150th anniversary of Louisiana State University. The City of Beverly Hills is seeking artists for the Spring 2010 Affaire In The Gardens Art Show, in the following categories: Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Drawing and Printmaking, Ceramics and Glass, Digital Art, Mixed Media and Jewelry. The show has taken place for over thirty-six years along four blocks of historic Beverly Gardens Parkway, from Rodeo to Rexford Drive, in the center of Beverly Hills. Artists from around the nation exhibit alongside local Los Angeles talent. Approximately 40,000 visitors attend throughout the weekend, and Southern California art dealers regularly drop by to seek out new art and artists. The show will take place on May 15 and 16, 2010. APRIL 2010 EXHIBITION - March 1, 2010
Projekt30 is an artist-run arts organization dedicated to promoting emerging artists. In addition to providing professional websites and web hosting for hundreds of fine artists, since 2003 we have conducted over 90 online juried exhibitions, featured the artwork of thousands of artists, and have facilitated the sale of thousands of artworks. Each year, Projekt30 receives roughly one tenth the number of visitors as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. We are currently seeking submissions for our April 2010 Exhibition. The exhibition will include 30 artists; invitations will be sent to our potent and refined mailing list of galleries, collectors, and fellow artists. All Projekt30 exhibitions are publicly juried, meaning artwork submitted will be presented online prior to the exhibition so visitors may help select which artists will graduate to the final 30. Unlike other juried exhibitions, all participants receive exposure. Opens: April 1, 2010. Public Jury: March 15-29, 2010. Fee: $40 for up to 10 images, though the fee is waived for Projekt30 members and artists who use Projekt30's web-hosting service.

SHORT FICTION WRITING CONTEST - March 31, 2010
Prizes totalling $485 (£300) can be won for short fiction in any genre in the spring 2010 round of the Writers' Village 'Best Writing' award. The top award is $242 (£150), with a $48 (£30) 2nd prize and $32 (£20) 3rd prize, plus ten runner-up prizes of $16 (£10). Winners will be awarded the title 'Winner, the Writers' Village Best Writing spring 2010 Award' and see their work showcased online. 25th ANNIVERSARY STUDENT ART CONTEST - March 5, 2010
The Celadon Group, Inc. "Art for the Long Haul" 25th Anniversary Student Art Contest will provide cash and recognition to seven student winners, based on the creativity and talent exemplified in artwork they have entered. Seven category winners receive $500 each. From those seven a Best of Show winner will be chosen. The Best of Show winner will receive an additional award of $4,500, and his/her winning design will be featured on the side of one of Celadon's semi-trailers that travel across the continent. Artists and art groups are invited to present their projects, every two years. They can apply with projects that fully utilise digital technologies in their conceptual, creative and performing processes, thereby opening up opportunities for digital performance and their relationship to factors such as time, space, physical presence and social encounters. An international jury with representatives from well-established media culture institutions and experienced scientists with a background in media art history will decide about the winner of the CYNETART-award and the sponsorship award. It will also decide on the award of the artist-in-residence-grant funded by the Saxon Ministry of Science and the Fine Arts.

The three sixty-minute sessions will feature presentations on affordable healthcare for New Jersey artists presented by The Health Insurance Resource Center; legal services available to New Jersey Artists presented by NJ Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts; and submission process strategies presented by a panel of distinguished curators about selecting work for a variety of exhibitions. POTTERY CENTER ARTIST RESIDENCY - March 1, 2010
Located 1.5 hours from Des Moines, Omaha, and 2.5 hours from Kansas City, CCFA offers the best of artist support, rural inspiration and strategic Midwest location all in one. Residencies at the art center for up to 12 months, and they have a brand new pottery facility that has yet to be broken in. CCFA currently has 2 openings for artists. Each residency includes a huge apartment, studio space in the art center and full use of the studio facilities 24 / 7. The cost is $185.00 a month and includes everything except food. Currently there is also a 2-year grant to support artists teaching classes to youth in the community that can offset the costs of the residency for artists who are interested in teaching.

PROFESSIONAL DANCER/CHOREOGRAPHER AUDITIONS - May 16, 2010
FUNDING THE ARTS, Felice Lesser's spy spoof about the lack of funding for the arts in the U.S. will be premiered for the company's 35th Anniversary Season at the Howard Gilman Theater of the Baryshnikov Arts Center, May 12-16, 2010. FLDT wants to cast some of the roles (and all the pre-recorded "cameos") with known choreographers, dancers, and former dancers to draw attention to the issue of arts funding for us all. Especially needed are one male and one female ballet dancer (with MAJOR COMPANY backgrounds) for the two Principal Roles. Other cast members should have ballet and/or modern backgrounds (pointe work required for a few of the roles) and be able to both dance (or move well) and act. (Dialogue will be pre-recorded, so memorizing lines will not be necessary.) Cast members will also double in small movement-based roles (soldiers, spies, etc.)

BOSTON'S PINE STREE INN SEEKS ART TEACHERS - March 1, 2010
Pine Street Inn is looking for artists to participate in a program designed to introduce the arts to their guests and tenants. Pine Street Inn has been offered a grant to conduct a series of visual arts workshops for guests in the emergency, transitional, and permanent housing programs in the greater Boston area. Artists will be paid a stipend and all program materials will be provided. We are looking for artists that will be able to commit approximately 3-4 hours each week to this program over a three month period. All classes will occur in the 2010 calendar year. Artists will be selected through an application process to ensure their commitment for the entire length of the three month project and also to garner a range of visual art disciplines.

SLOAN FILMMAKING GRANT - February 1, 2010
Taking place during the Los Angeles Film Festival, Fast Track is a selective film financing market that connects filmmakers with financiers, production companies, and other high-level industry professionals. The program is open to established as well as up-and-coming filmmakers with exceptional projects still seeking funding. The program helps filmmakers move forward with their current narrative and documentary projects, and it connects them with industry professionals who can provide advice and assistance in getting those films made. A $10,000 production grant will be awarded to a Fast Track participant.

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH ART EXHIBITION - February 23, 2010
We are looking for images of women, by women photographers from the metro NY/NJ area, in professions that were break-throughs for their time: the sciences, mathematics, engineering, arts, and environment. The challenge is celebrating professional WOMEN re-visioned through the eye of the photographer. All accepted work must be framed and prepared for suspension hanging. Work should be no smaller than 4 inches by 6 inches and no larger than 36 inches in width (including frame). Drop off of accepted work: February 22 & 23, 2010 before 5 pm. Entry fee.

RECESSION ART EXHIBITION - January 25, 2010
During the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) was the most expansive New Deal agency, putting millions of Americans to work on public projects. A branch of the WPA called the Federal Art Project supported artists by commissioning them to make public art. In the absence of an official WPA or Federal Art Project in today’s Great Recession, how are you putting yourself to work as an artist? The exhibition is open to all artists, and we welcome submissions in all media. We especially encourage the young and unemployed to submit. Selections will be conducted by the Recession Art Jury. Works Progress: A Recession Art Show will be held in April 2010 at The Invisible Dog in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Past Recession Artists have gone on to have group shows in Germany, residencies in Brooklyn, and features on NPR. Entry fee.

International Talent Support is a platform to give visibility and support to young creativity. ITS#PHOTO, the photography competition of ITS, has become a renowned and important international contest. The winner gets 10,000 Euros, a photo shoot with a renowned photographer (Ari Marcopoulos and Sarah Moon were the last two) and a dedicated article on GQ Magazine with a special event in Milan. Other prizes are a scholarship for a one-year course at SVA in NY, two paid ADV campaign jobs for PITTI Immagine Italy and more. ASIAN HERITAGE POSTER CONTEST - February 12, 2010
Annual poster competition for the 6th Annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration to be held on Saturday May 15, 2010, in front of the Asian Art Museum, leading up to the Little Saigon District. Organizers are looking for innovative artists to create an exciting and unique image. The winning artwork will become part of the personality for this year's event and will be featured in posters, postcards, Muni bus ads, BART banners, bus shelters, newspaper ads and in a TV commercial. The Asian Heritage Street Celebration gathers the diversity of the Asian American populations of San Francisco and promotes cross-cultural interaction through creation of innovative programs and entertaining activities for visitors and participants. The winner will also earn a $500 grand prize and citywide exposure.

Alternate Selves is an exhibition that explores the transformative power of costume. Through theater, annual holiday celebrations (such as Halloween and Mardi Gras), and even contemporary drag shows, costumes have allowed the wearer to reveal a new identity or at times hide from their own. Artists creating wearable items or those using costume, disguise, masks, etc. as primary thematic elements in their work may apply. Artists are encouraged to creatively interpret the theme. 2-D, 3-D, and time-based entries will be considered. Artists must be at least 18 years old to enter and cannot submit work that has previously been displayed at LAL. No entry fee.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN COMPETITION - February 8, 2010
A competition to design and construct an architectural pavilion for the 2010 summer season on Governors Island, the City of Dreams Pavilion. The City of Dreams Pavilion will be a gathering place for people to meet, learn about the arts programs on the island, be able to enjoy a planned or impromptu performance or lecture, and experience the interaction of art and the historic context of Governors Island. Instead of a typical design competition, the City of Dreams Pavilion asks entrants to consider how they will construct this temporary structure in the most efficient and sustainable way possible. Entrants will consider the entire lifecycle of building materials in their submission, from pre-construction through disassembly. Entry fee.

Fourth annual Horizontal Grandeur exhibition Call for Submissions. This exhibition is inspired by Bill Holm's (1943-2009) essay of the same name. Open to all artists residing in states or provinces with a prairie & all pieces must have a prairie related theme. Recent painting, drawings, photographs, fiber, hand-pulled prints, fired clay or sculpture will be accepted for the jury. 2-D pieces must be ready to hang, including wires. 2-D pieces must not exceed 240 inches, frame included. Sculptures must not weigh more than 100 pounds or exceed 4 feet in either direction. The entry fee is $5.00 for each piece to be juried. Sales will be handled through the SCHS gift shop. A 30% commission will be collected for all pieces sold as a result of the exhibit.

The Gardens At SIUE seeks artworks to be installed at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in honor of the 40th Earth Day. Works should be tied to Earth Day through the use of earth-aware themes, site-sensitive design, sustainable methods and materials, horticulture/arboriculture, or other Earth-oriented approaches to art. Works may biodegrade naturally or be installed for an artist-specified period of time ranging from a month to a year. Both existing works and site-specific proposals are welcome, and artists are strongly encouraged to visit the Gardens to explore its environment for inspiration and possible sites. $50 honorarium, and $500 in prizes. ERMERGING NYC ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP - March 1, 2010
40K in Support! The fellowship will support 9 individual artists in New York City (ages 22-38) working in visual arts, music, and performing arts who want to develop a new project with a Jewish focus, theme, or element. We'll provide up to a total of $40,000 as well as professional workshops, Jewish learning, and support to develop new projects exploring Jewish ideas and concepts. The 2-year fellowship will provide a Stipend of up to $20,000 over two years, a Project Grant of up to $20,000 over two years, and retreats, monthly workshops, coaching, and mentorship. The Letter of Intent (LOI) is due March 1, 2010, and the fellowship cycle begins in October 2010. Six Points is a unique collaboration of Avoda Arts, Foundation for Jewish Culture, and JDub Records, and we are pleased to continue the program with significant support from UJA-Federation of New York.

CLIFFE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM - March 1, 2010
2010 Byrdcliffe Arts Colony Artist in Residence Program: Offers visual artists, writers, and composers one-month residencies from June-September in the Catskill Mountains, Woodstock, NY, USA. FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR PAINTERS AND PLAYWRIGHTS! Pollock-Krasner: $1,100 plus free tuition for five artists. The Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship: $700 plus free tuition for an artist. The Bernard and Shirley Handel Playwright Fellowship: $500 stipend that includes tuition. The cost per 4 week session: $300. Application fee.

ANNUAL PORTFOLIO EXHIBITION - April 10, 2010
This is a call to artists for their themed juried exhibit hanging from May 2 to June 26, 2010. The theme for this exhibit is open. The purpose of the exhibit is to feature a portfolio of 5 images that represents a single subject or unifying theme. The minimum number of entries is 5, the maximum 10. Only 5 images will be selected to hang in each portfolio unit, however, there is no limit to the number of portfolios that can be entered. Awards. Entry fee.

"High Dynamic Range" is what photographers have been striving to capture and present since the early days when large black and white negatives were hand-altered, layered, and then printed. Current technologies allow digital image combining and tone mapping to produce spectacular pictures that range from photo-realism to those that stretch illusion and reality. Awards. Entry fee.

ARTIST & WRITERS RESIDENCY PROGRAM - September 1, 2010
2- to 8-week residencies year-round for writers, visual artists, and music composers. Housing, studio space, $100/week stipend are provided. Approximately 50 residencies are awarded per year. CALL FOR GENDER EQUALITY THEMED ART - January 29, 2010
The fallacy of gender equality can be seen specifically in the rhetoric that surrounds domestic violence and the common response to the male vs. female argument, in custody battles that are completely based on gender archetypes. The artists in this exhibition will challenge these inadequacies, working in Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Installation, Video, Performance and any media welcome. This exhibition will explore the breadth of contemporary art. This exhibition is open to all artists in the United States, 18 years of age or older. Entries must be original work completed within the last 3 years. Entry fee.

COLLEGE GALLERY CALL FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS - May 14, 2010
All media are acceptable. Proposals must be supported by digital files. Open to all artists 18 years of age or older. All entries must be original and have been executed within the last two years. The artist will be responsible for all shipping costs to and from the Gallery. Digital Files Only Please. Files should be no larger than 640x480 and saved in the highest quality jpeg. An image list with titles, medium and sizes must accompany the files. Entry fee.

CALL FOR SHORT PLAYS AND VISUAL ART - January 29, 2010
Playwrights will be asked to write plays based on an Image. LiveWire is putting a call out to visual artists from around the world to submit their best image for consideration. Submissions are open to any style, form or content. Once we have received all visual art submissions, the LiveWire Collective along with invited members of the community will choose 10-12 pieces for the entire public to vote on. The Image with the most votes will guide all play submissions. No entry fee.

CALL FOR PRAIRIE PLEIN AIRE ART - May 27, 2010
Participating artists may check in at the Prairie Center for the Arts office to register between 8am - 6pm on Friday, May 21 or between 8am - 6pm Monday, May 24 through Wednesday, May 26. The painting or photography subject must be located in Schaumburg, IL and must be created after registration from May 21- May 27, 2010. Participating artists will be provided with a map of Schaumburg noting specific areas of scenic interest within the community; however, they are suggestions and not required locations. The size of the piece must not exceed 16 x 20. Cash prizes for the top 3 entries (pending enough artist participation). Entry fee.
