Kickin’ Back is a juried competition that invites designers and architects from the Mid-Atlantic region to reflect on the concept of leisure and submit objects, renderings or prototypes that either complement and/or comment upon what constitutes contemporary states of rest or play. FREE "ARTS TUNE-UP" IN LOS ANGELES - November 10, 2010

The fast-paced "arts tune-up" format works like this: There will be several tables set up with an arts expert/consultant addressing a specific subject located at each table. Participants choose a topic they want to learn more about. After 25 minutes, participants rotate to another table with a topic of interest as the sessions repeat. There will be a total of 5 round-robin sessions of 25 minutes each. Participants are welcome to come by for an hour or stay for the entire morning.

Emerging artists will be in residence in the Mansion at Strathmore for a duration of six months. During this time, each artist will have the opportunity to develop an audience in the DC metropolitan area, perfect their craft, create a curatorial, educational, or special event proposal for Strathmore's consideration, and premiere a new body of artwork commissioned by Strathmore in a culminating exhibition.

BURNER MAGAZINE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - October 20, 2010

Burner contributors' work gets your blood pumping, heart racing, and induces literary, musical, visual crushes. You don't need to be of the fairer sex to contribute, nor should your submission necessarily have anything to do with women's interests or issues. We're not ruling that out; we're not ruling anything out. The Burner woman, after all, could just as well be a man. Poetry: 3-5 poems that you feel fit the Burner Magazine ethos. Short fiction/non-fiction: Submissions of short fiction and non-fiction should be limited 500-1000 words and attached in a single document. Photography/Visual Art: We need your most incendiary and inspiring visual works to bring our first issue to life. There is a long history of works of art that have been by banned by governments seeking to define and regulate what constitutes a work of art. Art that was considered, degenerate, dangerous, politically subversive, scandal provoking and socially destabilizing. Do you have a work of art that could be considered dangerous, politically subversive, scandal provoking and or socially destabilizing today. We are seeking submissions of art works including traditional two dimensional works in any medium, digital video works, sculpture, architecture, animation, performance art that can be presented live in our gallery, written works, recorded music/lyric works To help us curate this exhibition we ask you to submit a copy of your work in a digital format only. CALL FOR AR5TISTS SPACES PROPOSALS - November 22, 2010

A new Downtown Partnership program called Operation: Storefront aims to match individuals or groups seeking space with available first floor spaces in Downtown, thereby putting Downtown storefronts back into “operation”. Downtown Partnership is seeking proposals from individual artists and artist teams, established or aspiring retailers and restaurateurs, and creative entrepreneurs, nonprofits or companies to occupy, activate, and utilize empty first floor space for creative enterprises. Successful applicants will receive grants of up to $10,000 to support costs associated with the occupation of, and operation at, a selected vacant first floor space. Tenant applicants are welcome and encouraged to include a proposal for a specific space, or Downtown Partnership staff will work with applicants to determine an appropriate no or low-cost space after their bid has been chosen.
