"EYE MEETS EAR" THEMED VISUAL ARTS COMPETITION - November 1, 2010

The Milken Archive in collaboration with the Foundation for Jewish Culture presents Eye Meets Ear: a visual arts competition to select 20 works in any visual medium as cover art for 20 themed volumes of music in the Milken Archive's new virtual museum. 20 prizes of $2,000 each will be awarded, and many more artworks will receive exposure at www.milkenarchive.org. Works in any visual medium from all artists ages 18-39 are welcome.

VENICE CA FILM FESTIVAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS - October 29, 2010

The Electric Lodge in Venice needs volunteers for its Green Screen Film Festival and EcoFest street fair October 29th-31st 2010. We are currently looking for people to help with the preparation of the festival (soliciting vendors, donations, and performance acts, as well as general promotion of the event). In lieu of payment, for each hour worked volunteers will receive a $12.50 credit towards rental of space at the Electric Lodge (including the basement classroom, dance studio, or black box theatre).

SKODA PRIZE FOR INDIAN CONTEMPORARY ART - September 30, 2010

The prize carries an award of Rs 10,00,000 [Rupees one million]. It seeks to recognize and reward the finest Indian contemporary artist. As an artist, you are free to nominate yourself for The SKODA Prize. To qualify for the prize this year, artists will need to have had a solo show between 1st May 2009 and 30th April 2010 in India. All Indian citizens under the age of 45, as of 1st May 2010 are eligible for consideration. FAIR TRADE ARTISANS ART COMPETITION - October 1, 2010

Trash to Treasure is the theme and $500 is up for grabs! Artists will incorporate long strips of the discarded label paper Gifts With Humanity used last year in an artistic expression (sculptor, canvas, pottery, film, dance, stage, sound, written, flash mob, etc.). Each year the Corning Museum publishes a survey of glass in contemporary art, architecture, craft and design created in the previous year by emerging and established artists. The curators seek works by Asian women artists who have immigrated to the United States. As an international center for art, New York City attracts artists from all over the world, many of whom deal with dual cultural, racial and national identities, and issues of separation from families and loved ones. In the city, one may experience culture shock due to peculiar living situations, and to different gender role expectations than those experienced in more male-dominated Asian countries. These experiences can be both funny and profound.

This commission is for an artist or artist team to create an original piece of public art that serves as an icon and artistic landmark for the newly completed Downtown Boat Slips and Promenade. This public art commission is open to all professional artists and artist teams residing within the United States. Artists may apply as a team, but the application should clearly describe the contribution of each collaborator. Artists living and working within the state of Florida are strongly encouraged to apply, but will not receive special consideration due to their residency. The budget is $200,000.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive corporate gifts program to benefit Levitt Pavilions and the national network of pavilions; securing regional and national corporate sponsorships; securing event sponsors for Levitt Pavilions fundraisers; and seeking in-kind donations, such as travel and hotel accommodations, for the network of pavilions. "Figuratively Speaking" is but not limited to the traditional/contemporary aspects of the human forms, conditions, interactions, and abstractions of the human body.
"Figuratively Speaking" includes figuration in an abstract forms. All artists ages 18 years old or older are invited to participate. Best of Show $200 and A Solo show at Village Gallery (2 weeks duration). If selected artist is unable to participate in a solo show, he or she will be given $350 cash. Merit awards (3) $50 and a Group show at Village Gallery (2 weeks duration). If selected artists are unable to participate in a group show, they will be given $80 cash. Honorable Mentions (3). Seeking a consultant to develop a public art plan for the Central Corridor that connects the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. The Public Art Plan will be undertaken through Public Art Saint Paul’s partnership with the City of Saint Paul, the City of Minneapolis Art in Public Places Program, the University of Minnesota Public Art on Campus Program, the Saint Paul on the Mississippi Design Center, Ramsey County, and the Capitol Region and Ramsey Washington Regional Watershed Districts. Funding for the Public Art Plan has been granted to Public Art Saint Paul by the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative. Budget: $150,000. No entry fee.

YOUNG ARTISTS SIX-MONTH RESIDENCY - September 17, 2010

The dates for the next Residency are September 29, 2010 - March 29, 2011. Available to college students and other young and emerging artists. The resident artist is required to occupy the studio for at least 15 hours per week and be present to show new work each First Friday of the month, spend a significant amount of time creating work in the Emporium studio, and help hang monthly changing exhibits in the Emporium galleries if necessary. Artist may also offer curatorial input and be eligible for curatorial opportunities in programming gallery space.
